1. The short version#

  • We only use what the site needs to work, plus one optional preference that is saved only if you allow it.
  • No advertising cookies, no cross-site tracking, and no analytics today.
  • Map images and place search come from third-party services, which see your IP address (section 6).
  • You can change your choice at any time.

This policy covers the website. For how we use personal data generally, see our Privacy Policy.

2. What cookies and storage are#

Cookies are small text files a website saves in your browser. Websites can also save information in your browser's local storage (kept until it's cleared) and session storage (cleared when you close the tab). The law (the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, or PECR) treats them all the same way. We can use them without asking if they are strictly necessary for a service you've asked for. Anything else needs your consent first.

3. Strictly necessary#

These are needed for the site to work and stay secure, so they don't need consent and can't be switched off. All are first-party, set by wattly.co.uk.

4. Functional#

These remember your preferences. We only save them if you switch on “Functional”.

Functional storage
NameTypeWhat it doesLasts
wattly_map_darkLocal storageRemembers whether you chose the light or dark map style.Until you clear it or withdraw consent

If you refuse or later withdraw consent, we delete this item and the map goes back to its default style on each visit. The site's light or dark theme follows your device setting and isn't stored.

5. Analytics#

We don't use any analytics on the website today. The “Analytics” switch is there so that, if we add a tool later, it stays off unless you agree. Before adding one we will update this policy and ask everyone again.

6. Maps, search and other third parties#

  • Map images (CARTO): the charger map loads map tiles from CARTO (basemaps.cartocdn.com), using OpenStreetMap data. To send you the images, your browser connects directly to CARTO, which receives your IP address, browser details and the map area you're viewing. We don't ask CARTO to set cookies. See carto.com/privacy.
  • Place search (Photon by Komoot): when you search for a place or postcode, your browser sends what you type to Photon (photon.komoot.io), along with your IP address. If you use your location to look up an address, the coordinates are sent too. See komoot.com/privacy.
  • Stripe, Google and Microsoft: if you go to Stripe (for example to set up host payouts), or sign in with Google or Microsoft, those pages are on their own websites and set their own cookies under their own policies.
  • Fonts: our fonts are served from wattly.co.uk, not from a third-party font service.
  • Static map previews on charger pages are fetched by our server, so your browser doesn't contact the map provider for those.

7. The Wattly app#

The Wattly app doesn't use cookies. It stores information on your phone instead:

  • your sign-in tokens, in the phone's secure storage (Keychain on iPhone, Keystore on Android)
  • your settings, map filters, setup progress and a cache of recently viewed data, in the app's private storage
  • identifiers created by Google Firebase for push notifications, analytics and crash reports

Location, notifications, camera and photos are only used if you allow them in your phone's settings, and you can change those permissions at any time. Uninstalling the app removes its storage from your phone. More detail is in our Privacy Policy.

8. Changing your choices#

Use the button below, or the “Cookie settings” link at the bottom of every page, to reopen the cookie banner and change your choices. Your choice is saved for 6 months, and we ask again if this policy changes in a way that affects it.

You can also block or delete cookies and site data in your browser: Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge. If you block strictly necessary cookies, signing in and registering won't work.

9. Changes and contact#

We will update this page when we change what we use. The date at the top shows when it last changed. Questions: privacy@wattly.co.uk.
